Where you stay depends on why you came

Bentonville’s hotels sit in two groups. Downtown, The Compton and 21c are on the square, Motto is two blocks off it, and the AC Hotel stands at the corner of Walmart’s new home office with direct access to the Razorback Greenway. The chain hotels, several of them extended-stay suites with kitchens, are farther out on the south and east sides near I-49. The four downtown hotels check in at 4 PM, and the hotels out by I-49 that publish a time check in at 3 PM.

    Who The Compton is named for

    Dr. Neil Compton was a Bentonville obstetrician. In 1962 he became president of the Ozark Society to Save the Buffalo River, which fought two dams the Army Corps of Engineers planned on the river. On March 1, 1972, the Buffalo became the first national river in the National Park System.

    A museum you can walk into at 3 a.m.

    21c opened on February 11, 2013, as a hotel and a contemporary art museum in one building. Its galleries are free and open to the public around the clock, whether or not you are staying there.

  3. 03The rooftop

    Falfurrias, after a Texas escape

    The AC Hotel opened in May 2025 at the corner of Walmart’s 414-acre home office. It was built to host visiting associates and takes public bookings when the rooms are not needed for business. Its fifth-floor rooftop lounge, Falfurrias, is named for one of Sam Walton’s favorite escapes in South Texas.

    Bring the bike inside

    The Compton, 21c, and Motto have bike valets. The Hilton Garden Inn has free bike lockers beside the Razorback Greenway, and Element lends bikes to guests at no charge. The Bike Inn, a restored motel on South Walton, has in-room bike storage and a 24-hour bike shop.
